Ravens Cruise There Way Into Harbaugh Bowl
With freezing weather conditions in Foxbourough, and a defensive first quarter, this game looked to be a sloppy, defensive game. Ravens running back Ray Rice had put the Ravens ahead 7-3, after a 2 yard trot for a touchdown. Brady bounced back with 10 unanswered points to put New England up 13-7, at halftime. Tom Brady was 66-0 when leading at halftime, at home, and looked to blow up Baltimore's defense in the second half. While Brady wanted more, the Ravens seemed like they were still in this game, but needed to do much more damage, to win this game. That's what Joe Flacco and the Ravens would do as they scored 21 unanswered points to upset New England 28-13. Ravens QB Joe Flacco hit Tight End Dennis Pitta on a 5 yard toss, to put Baltimore up by 1. Then Joe Flacco and Anquan Boldin heated up in the 4th quarter as they connected for scores. One of the scores had started because of a Bernard Pollard brusing hit on Patriots RB Stevan Ridley, who got a head injury on the play. Baltimore's defense also turned it up a notch in the 4th quarter as they picked off Tom Brady twice and forced a Stevan Ridley fumble. Even though the Patriots offense outgained the Ravens offense, 428-356, turnovers and injuries were the biggest differences in this game. The Patriots had lost there best CB, Aquib Talib, because of a knee injury in the second quarter, and they also DT Kyle Love and saftey Patrick Chung for the game too. While Brady had outgained Flacco yardage wise, 320-240, he was picked oof twice, compared to Flacco's none. Ray Lewis made the most of it in his final game by piling up 14 tackles. While injuries and 4th quarter turnovers hurt the Patriots, the Ravens showed how to hold a dynamic offense that was without Rob Gronkowski and play mistake free ball in Giellete Stadium.
